Help me out. What the heck it the appeal of FAKE!Ray??

So I was pondering my response to this while I was driving to work and then I ran over some poor soul because the gay sex really gets me distracted.

And let me first say, it's not that I don't like RayV. In fact, I do like him a lot.

I love UST between Fraser/RayV. They definitely love each other and want each other. However, I don't find RayV queer coded. I can see him having feelings for Fraser, but never acting on them because he's straight and when Fraser gets neekid, it just doesn't work for RayV. In one of the stories that I've rec'd, the author points out that Stella is basically a female American Fraser who's a little more jaded.

I also don't care to think of neekid RayV. He's not my type at all. Whereas Fraser and RayK definitely are.

I think when dealing with the two Rays, you can't think of one as real!Ray and fake!Ray. They are both different people with their own little quirks.

All that said, I only read due South fanfic by authors on my flist and off recs that people on my flist (or on crackvan) make. I'm not reading enough to find Fraser/RayV UST stories and the people on my flist are titled toward Fraser/RayK.

So yeah, I love Stanley Kowalski and his stupid, little glasses and CKR's cracked out accent.

I'm not a Fraser/RayV shipper or anything, I just really thought the whole let's replace Ray with another not!Ray and make a really lame ass excuse was kinda a kick in the kidney. (Or atleast that's how I remember it feeling.) It reminds me of What they did on Charmed. (Which went to hell when Shannon left. UGHH.) Why replace someone like that? There are waaay better ways. Also RayK always rubbed me the wrong way too. (And no, I have no need to see David David Marciano nekkid, for all that I love him. *is really missing the show now and wishes she had cash for the DVDs.*

At first, it's definitely a kick in the kidney. (Though I only caught S1 and S2 when dS aired.) RayK kind of grew on me in his own strange way. I also think that the audience was given more of who he was beyond the job than RayV, which 1) allowed audiences to create 2 separate Rays and also 2) made me, at least, feel like I knew more about RayK's personal life than RayV, which helps with the whole character attachment thing.
