Snow Day and Impressionable Numbers
Nov. 28th, 2006 11:47 amThis is the first official snow day I've had since I was in about 3rd grade 2nd grade (as corrected by lornelover). But the Seattle area cannot handle snow and ice (unlike my hometown) and I will not be leaving the warmth of my home. So I was a responsible adult-like person and cleaned the mold off my windows and sliding glass door. (Sorry, lornelover, you'll have to clean your own bedroom window.) Now the apartment smells like a pool and so do my hands, but with probably 75% less mold in the apartment.
Yesterday, I was chatting with a friend and discussing feedback and how much feedback a writer feels like a single story deserves on average. (We're not talking about taking into considering writing strange pairings or in that fandom where no one reads fic but two people. And obviously, we know that every author loves feedback and wants as many comments as possible.) The friend said that she expects at least 25 (1 page) of LJ comments on any fic she posts and if she doesn't get that, then it wasn't worth writing/sharing. I was...um...rather shocked at her statement and I considered that my number was more like 3 comments.
I'd also read a couple of posts on my flist this weekend noting a lack of feedback, both in fandom rants and the pimp your favorites ways. So I was wondering just how much feedback you need to get on the average, well-written story for you to feel like your fanfic was a success?
The who voted for what of this poll is locked so only I can see it in order to encourage honest answers.
[Poll #877301]
Please note: It's great if you only write for yourself and don't care about feedback, but I'm not addressing those who don't care. I'm going to assume that everyone wants at least 1 comment; otherwise, they wouldn't be posting their fic on LJ.
