I don't get the bruhaha over Fandom Wiki adding fans' public userinfo to their Wiki. Fans keep whining that we need to have a central place for fans created by fans. And now everyone's all "Big Brother is out to get me." If I put in my userinfo that I was a giant kola, that's what they would archive. The internets is public, yo. Bots (also known as spiders) run around the internet daily, indexing the entire thing for different purposes.

If I read one more blog post on how I should vote for Hilary becuase she's a woman and I am one too, I'm going to scream. For the record, I don't know whom I'm going to vote for, except not McCain. My votes go by what the candidate's platform is, not their looks, gender, race, etc. Not to mention all of them rather reek of white privilege. If I vote for Hilary, it isn't going to be because of what's between her legs.

The hallway that goes to the laundry room smells horribly of paint thinner and B.O. However, the landlords' selling of the house means they've cleaned it up instead of leaving the horrible mounds of their dirty clothing.

Jason and I made pancakes this morning and are eating fresh pineapple. Mmmm...pineapple. We're also continuing our BtVS/AtS marathoning after pausing to catch up on this past week's Grey's, Ugly Betty, and the Riches.

Went out last night and saw some friends I haven't seen in while. It was surprisingly fun. That and warm enough to wear one of my cute summer cotton dresses.

[livejournal.com profile] lornelover is visiting the area this weekend and we got some quality snark time on Friday with SG-1, SJA, DW, and BSG. The conclusion always reached at this universe's SG-1 team is always right 112% of the time and that Donna is kind of awesome. (Not as much as Martha, yet.) And I love Saul and Uncle Saul's Nursery School for Tots.

Now I have some She-Hulk to read...

I'm with you on the not knowing who the heck I am voting for come November. And also on not voting based on race or gender. Those are not good reasons to vote for anyone.

They're definitely not. I'm all about candidates positions and profiles. I'm a bleeding-heart socialist liberal who's been know to vote for a Republican or two in her time who had a saner profile than the other parties. Granted, on very local elections and I'm sure you know the problems of living in more rural areas where the sane candidate is an embezzler and the person running against him wants to be commission as he thinks the sheriff's department is out to get him and if he's in public office, he can't be killed.

I think all the Fandom Wiki stuff came from trawling FF.net. So my impression is that the frustration is coming more from people who started at FF.net and moved on, and are seeing their teenie-selves get processed and archived at the Wiki (rather than whatever they would currently put in such a bio).

I can understand a general "letting everyone know" announcements so they can edit. But there were some posts that had a level of Big Brother parania. (And seriously, we all know our n00b teenie-selves trail and we can delete it. I know that I did mine during my undergrad years.)

*shrugs* I have zero investment in either side of this, just offering up a possible reason why people were piqued.

I missed the Fandom Wiki thing, but the same thing happened a few years ago when somebody discovered that Bloglines was crawling LJ pages. It's still brought up by [livejournal.com profile] stewardess and her crowd as proof that LJ is EV0L for allowing it to happen. To stuff they posted in public on the internet.

[livejournal.com profile] stewardess and her crowd are very special. And by special, I mean dumb fucks. (Which reminds me a need to go defriend another LJ is ev0l person.)

I love the "but it's private on the public internet" arguments.

I think most are just irritated at the inaccuracies.

And, man. I have no idea who I'm voting for, other than not republican. Which is possibly sad. I think I'm a bit jaded, though. I don't think any of them will do these sweeping changes that they claim, and that they'll end up being just the same as the last eight years.

But, eh, they could surprise me.

I can understand an announcement that they're doing it so you can go and change. Totally acceptable, but there were definitely Big Brother posts.

Yeah, I'm completely sick of the same crap.

I only found out about fandom wiki the other day. I honestly don't get why anyone is even interested. Someone else, no Icarusancalion herself (or so she says), went and added her entire fic history etc to her profile. Who has that much time? I'm amazed. lol
And yeah, if it's public, then stop whining. Very true.

I think I kinda love Donna. Even if I've only managed to see the first ep of the season so far. :)

*blushes* Well, actually, I just corrected the information they had there... and, um, got on a roll and added the ones they were missing (all the NC-17 fic and the fic posted since I stopped using ff.net).

Have you read through Fanhistory? Sheesh. It's like it was written by fandom_wank. Where's the positive? Where's the fanfic?

Heh. My big issue with my Wiki page was, "Hey waitaminute, they got the date on that wrong...."

If I read one more blog post on how I should vote for Hilary becuase she's a woman and I am one too

Thank you. Totally agree. I have a hard time getting upset about our choice in candidates this election. Let's see... we have a man who's a brilliant speaker with the kind of charisma we haven't seen since JFK, and a woman who projects hyper-competence who essentially was co-president for 8 years. It's an embarrassment of riches. I'm not seeing the problem here. In my happy world we'll have a Hillary/Obama or Obama/Hillary ticket. Maybe not, but that would be my ideal outcome.

I can completely understand fixing the entry to reflect current and/or accurate things. But there were a few "Big Brother is out to get me and my public posts." Those are the ones I take some issue with. Seriously, I deleted all records of my teen fanfic fun several years ago without issue.

I do wonder if many voters feel that they have good choices this time around and that's why there's almost evenness amongst the campaigns. It's an interesting thought.

I scoped through a few more articles on the Fanhistory Wiki. They read as if written by Fandom Wank. Adding ff.net info is actually an improvement. At least it has something to do with fanfiction and not just the wanks.

I think so. At least one person on my journal has said, "Flip a coin."

Um . . . that's retarded. How about voting for whoever you think is the most qualified candidate?

Not to mention all of them rather reek of white privilege

...Obama reeks of white privilege?

As for McCain, the fact that he is a white man definitely means he has had privileges and advantages in society and politics, and while I disagree with him on many things, you have to give the guy credit for some of the things he's endured. Five and a half years as a prisoner of war makes Bush look like even more of a pussy for ditching out on the National Guard. McCain may be a privileged man with a lot of money and power, but the dude hasn't coasted through life carefree and I think that's to his credit, even though I wouldn't vote for him.

Umm, no. The feminist bloggers talking about how you need to vote for Hilary because she's a woman. Their posts reek of white privilege.

I'm not sure that McCain is the same man he was 10 years ago when I liked him much better than I do now.
