alizarin_nyc was like what is this del.icio.us thing that you keep talking about? And I realized that while I've talked about it and mentioned it, I've been kind of just assuming that everyone knew what it was. Del.icio.us is a bookmarking system. Much like the bookmarking that comes with your browser, del.icio.us keeps track of those specially marked webpages. Only instead of folders, it uses tags much like LJ, only they're smart tags so you don't end up with fanfic and fanfiction. (Note: it is caps sensitive.) The smart tags also give suggested tags if someone else on del.icio.us has already bookmarked that page. Del.icio.us is free and you have access to your bookmarks on any computer. Other people can also have access as everything is public.
Del.icio.us has browser add-ons (at least for Firefox and IE) that make bookmarking easier and more automatic. (As long as you're logged on.)
It also has a form of a friendlist. It's called your "inbox," in which you can "subscribe" to other users lists and if you want, narrow down what you see of theirs based on their tags. You can also "copy" their bookmarks with tags of your own.
There's a Fandom Directory of users who are in fandom and have an lj. (The signup lj page is in its bookmarks.)
I started using it when my computer messed up and I thought that I was going to have reinstall my browser and that I'd lose all my bookmarks. I'm pretty much an obsessive bookmarker and things like that send me into a panic. My del.icio.us username is, of course, viciouswishes. (You'll have to minimize my "pairings" list to make it look normal as it has too much info for del.icio.us to comprehend, at least on Firefox.) Cataloging is very Zen for me.
